In men’s tennis, Jannik Sinner is the new official world number one. Since statistical rankings were introduced in 1973, he is the first male or female from Italy to be ranked #1 in the world in singles.
Ranking No. 2 is recently crowned French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated Sinner in a five-set quarterfinal. Djokovic had surgery last week to treat a knee problem that caused him to withdraw from Roland Garros.
Sinner expressed his thoughts about it and said: “It represents a great result of work ethic. For me and my team, it was one of our goals these years. But the most important goal is always to improve as a player and as a person by surrounding myself with great people. I think I can be very happy and pleased with what I’m doing and what my team is doing. In the last period, I’ve played some really good tennis. I’m very happy to be in this position.”
Sinner wrote on X: “Thank you, @atptour, for today’s presentation; it was a lovely moment and I now look forward to starting the grass-court season.”

The only Italian man in history to reach this ranking.
Be proud. 🇮🇹❤️
